State Police in Rensselaer County responded to the incident early Wednesday, Nov. 6, after reports of a past burglary at a business on Maple Hill Road in the town of Schodack.

Nicholas T. Layman, age 29, of the town of Nassau, allegedly forced entry into the business around 4:30 a.m., damaging the door and taking items before leaving, said police.

Troopers located Layman across the street from the business, where he was reportedly asleep near the stolen items.

He was taken into custody, processed at the Schodack barracks, and charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, and petit larceny.

Layman was later arraigned in Schodack Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
